What are seaweeds?

Seaweeds are a diverse group of multicellular marine algae distinguished by their pigments — red, green, and brown.

Seaweeds play pivotal roles in marine ecosystems including providing habitat, producing oxygen and capturing carbon. Beyond their ecological significance, these nutrient-dense organisms have been used in agriculture for millennia, acting as a supplementary food source for livestock and a versatile soil amendment.

What is kelp?

There are around 30 different species of kelp, which are large, fast-growing brown seaweeds. Kelps are naturally nutrient-dense, containing a complex mixture of biologically active compounds that can benefit agricultural root development and plant growth.

Why should I choose agricultural products made of cultivated kelp?

As with land plants, our oceans are impacted by the effects of climate change.

Naturally occurring kelp species provide essential benefits to marine ecosystems while servicing the growing demand for natural agricultural products.

By choosing products derived from cultivated kelp you contribute to the protection of these natural ecosystems and support ocean farmers too.

In the past four years, Cascadia Seaweed has become recognized globally as an expert in seaweed cultivation, from designing and building farms, developing seed and nursery technologies, to outplanting and harvesting techniques, along with processing and producing value-added products while complying with a broad regulatory framework.

These value-added products aim to help producers increase yields and reduce emissions.
