Cascadia Seaweed is currently developing a natural additive providing essential minerals and amino acids to optimize animal performance. Preliminary research indicates strong prebiotic activity when incorporated into the diets of ruminants, specifically cattle.
With funding from Agriculture and Agri-Feed Canada, Cascadia has conducted in vitro and in vivo research identifying and testing the compounds in brown kelps that make effective feed supplements for cattle. The products are currently undergoing further feed trials.
Feed supplements for beef and dairy cattle producers who want to sustainably increase yields while decreasing emissions, Cascadia Animal Health offers seaweed-derived feed additives and supplements that can have some of the following expected outcomes:
✓ Improve feed conversion
✓ Improve the microbiome & animal health
✓ Reduce emissions
✓ Have low inclusion rates
Seaweeds are a diverse group of multicellular marine algae distinguished by their pigments — red, green, and brown.
Seaweeds play pivotal roles in marine ecosystems including providing habitat, producing oxygen and capturing carbon. Beyond their ecological significance, these nutrient-dense organisms have been used in agriculture for millennia, acting as a supplementary food source for livestock and a versatile soil amendment.
There are around 30 different species of kelp, which are large, fast-growing brown seaweeds.
As with land plants, our oceans are impacted by the effects of climate change.
Naturally occurring kelp species provide essential benefits to marine ecosystems while servicing the growing demand for natural agricultural products.
By choosing products derived from cultivated kelp you contribute to the protection of these natural ecosystems and support ocean farmers too.
In the past four years, Cascadia Seaweed has become recognized globally as an expert in seaweed cultivation, from designing and building farms, developing seed and nursery technologies, to outplanting and harvesting techniques, along with processing and producing value-added products while complying with a broad regulatory framework.
These value-added products aim to help producers increase yields and reduce emissions.
It's sustainable aquaculture supporting regenerative agriculture!
